rounded up @ Tuesday, November 21, 2006Heard the news recently that GST is going to be raised from 5% to 7% to help the poor people. I am poor! So can I not pay the GST? Does increasing the GST really help the poorer people? Don't the poorer people have to pay for GST as well?
Aren't there other alternatives besides GST? Govt can always raise the tax on branded goods, text people from the higher income group, higher tax on alcohol and cigarettes etc to help raise money for the poor? There are so many ways...
If they are to increase GST this would be the second time in 3 years that they are raising the GST. Gosh... Singapore is becoming unbearably difficult to live in!
